DIY: Cashmere redux

As I get older and my body becomes more slouchy, I realize that slouchy clothes don’t really work for me anymore. The more shapely and tailored my clothes, the better I look. I still enjoy (and, um, need) a loose and casual aesthetic, so for me, the trick is to alter a few pieces so they just fit better. After all, it is the clothing’s job to fit the body, not the body’s job to fit the clothing!

Scarf tricks

Oatmeal is generally not a good color on me. And bulky sweaters make me look thick. But  for various reasons, I keep a few somewhat unflattering sweaters, and I use scarf tricks to make them work.

A swing and a miss

“I do not need another winter coat,” I told myself as I took it into the dressing room and tried it on. The other day, I popped into my local Junior League thrift store (“Bloomin’ Deals”) to see whether they had a cute orange top for me. Instead, I found this gorgeous coat.

Happy Mardi Gras!

For Mardi Gras day, I’m planning to “mask”–wear a costume–so here is what I wore for Lundi Gras, the day before Mardi Gras. I went with a purple, green, and gold color scheme because those are the colors associated with Fat Tuesday. I don’t normally wear brights together, but the holiday gives me an excuse to try color blocking!
